The village Zalipie is only 90 minutes from Krakow and is completely covered in painted flowers. A few years ago, this practice began as a way to cover soot marks from ovens, since they had insufficient ventilation.
Over the time, more and more people joined these efforts, and ever since 1948, this place has held a Painted Cottage Competition or Malowana Chata. The aim of the contest was to help Poland psychologically recover from the dreadful consequences of World War II.
Agnes is now painting her hometown of Louka, Czech Republic, and uses a small brush and paint to brighten the buildings and homes, and creates decorations with floral patterns.
“I am an artist, I just enjoy it and I want to help.”
Her intricate bright blue flowers, inspired by traditional Moravian (southern Czech) artwork, have now become her passion. She is a living proof of the fact that age is just a number, and doing what you love brings real joy and happiness in life.
